I'm going to post this as an example for all the new members who may be unfamiliar with the style we're used to using on this site. Use this as a reference when filling out your own RP sample.
Ouda sat down at his writing desk, took up a quill dipped in ink, and began to write. "I have to create this sample for everyone to learn from," The merchant mumbled quietly to himself.
"First I should mention proper punctuation and spelling," Ouda continued. "We can't expect everyone to be perfect, but it's alway good to try your best, right? Typos happen, but at least make an effort to post legibly so that everyone understands what you're saying."
As the words continued to flow across the paper Ouda warmed to the subject at hand. "Oh, and spacing your paragraphs out like this, whenever you switch perspectives or start a new line of thought, is the mark of a good writer." Thoughts were coming to the rotund merchant more easily now.
"Write down what your character is thinking or saying, but also what they see and hear. Be descriptive and creative," Ouda continued, then stopped for a moment to pour himself a drink of loqua from the glass decanter that sat on the side of his writing desk. Taking a sip, he continued.
Here the Nasrean paused. He furrowed his brow in thought for a moment, wording his next passage in his mind before committing it to paper. "RPing is like telling a story, but only in part. Post what is going on at the moment, but don't jump too far ahead of anyone else." Ouda smiled.
"Oh, but don't make your posts too short. Writing only a sentence or two really ticks Bear off so you should try to fill your posts out by describing your surroundings, what your character is thinking or doing, and generally making your entry worth reading for everyone who posts after you."
Ouda's quill continued to scratch across the page. "Avoid making entries like this one:
*puts down empty loqua glass and starts writing again*
Since Legends of Arcadia isn't a chat based RP you don't need to use short entries like that to let us know what you're doing. Use longer and more descriptive entries like this one instead."
Ouda held the page up to the light and read over his words, nodding in satisfaction.
"Use this topic if you need a reference and remember, Practice Makes Perfect, as my father always said. The more you RP, the better you'll get. Just remember what you learn here and you'll do well."
Placing his quill back in its holder Ouda pinned his entry in a place where everyone could see it and would hopefully read it.
