This compendium is specifically designed for those people who have not played Skies of Arcadia and are in need of information about the world of Arcadia. We hope it is of assistance.

Please note that this covers information purely left by the game, not our own theories on post-game events etc.

What is Arcadia? The basics explained!

Arcadia is a world where the oceans are replaced by vast skies. Islands hang in the air. Anyone who is foolish enough to wander to close to the edge will find themselves falling into what is called "deep sky", the dark world below the think layer of visible clouds on the planet's surface. Stepping out on the surface of the Arcadian world itself would put any person under so much pressure they would be crushed almost instantaniously. Instead, all life in Arcadia takes place within the atmospheric layers, from the floating lumps of low-orbiting rock which make up the continents of Arcadia to the open skies themselves.

Ships sail through these skies. They take the appearence of sea ships from throughout the ages, depending on what nation of Arcadia they hail from. These ships are powered by moonstones, the primary source of energy on Arcadia. These moonstones are either mined at where they have, in the past, fallen from one of the six moons that sit in a fixed location above Arcadia's skies, or collected from a recent falling. These gems once processed provide an aura of power that grant's the holder the ability to cast magic and power other devices.

Moonstones come in six different colours, each of which has a unique set of properties. The various colours are most commonly found directly below their corresponding moon. There is rumor of the existance of a seventh, black moon, which is invisible against the black of space. Black moonstones have been found to add weight to this theory, but no use for them has been found. The Moonstones are used by Arcadians for a vast number of differing purposes; everything fromShip Fuel to Streetlighting, as well as powering almost any mechanism or weapon known to Arcadian science. The six continents.

Under each of the six moons lies a continent with its own race, history and culture that reflect the properties of the moon. They shall be explained below in detail. Any numerical statistics are simply from the game and must only be interpreted for relative power impressions.

These six cultures once warred with eachother using giant living weapons of mass destruction, untill the Silvites of the Silver moon decided to end the conflict by wiping out the majority of the world's population. How this was done shall be explained under the Silvites' history. Below is their current status.

Ixa'Taka!

The first and green continent. It's moon heralds over the powers of organic life and equally, disese.

Magic:
Sacri - Individual Recovers 500HP.
Sacres - Individual Recovers 1000HP.
Sacrum - Party Recovers 1000HP.
Sacrulen - Individual Recovers all HP.
Noxi - Attempt to poison a single foe and slightly damage.
Noxus - Attempt to poison opposing party and slightly damage.

Culture:
The Ixa'Takans are comparable to Native Americans before the Europeans landed on American soil and Just Afterwards, especially the tribes of South America and the Incan Empire. They are tribal, led by an Elder within each village. These villages are united by the rule of King Ixa'Taka. While the culture is primitive by modern standards, they are still formidable. Some villages such as the all-female Village of Ixa'ness can be quite war like. The Ixa'Takan people worship a god they call Quetya, though most also venerate their local moon (whilst few of the isolated Ixa'takan tribes know that other moons even exist). Though regared by the Ixa'takans as a deity, Qut'ya was actually the Silvite who sealed the Green gigas in ancient times. More on this later.

Gigas:
Grendel, the Green Giant. Takes the shape of a giant human. After the Silvite's wiped out the majority of the population, several of the Gigas' still raged, so he was sealed by a group of Silvites, whose leader was known as Quetya. She bears close resemblance to Fina, one of the game's main characters.

Cities:
In ancient times, Ixa'Taka was ruled from Rixis, the city of mists. It rested on a mountain in high altitude such that it was almost always among the clouds. This is where the Crystal that controled Grendel was sealed. It was destroyed when the Silvites wiped out the world's population.

For the years of the Valuan occupation Ixa'Taka was nominally ruled from a small hut, the Ixa'takan Palace having been devestated in the initial invasion. With the Valuans now gone, the Ixa'takan king still does not command enough authority over the scattered tribes to repair his former capital. Many of the descisions in Ixa'taka these days are made by the Elder of Horteka, the largest settlement in Ixa'ta, whilst the Ixa'takan priesthood have also had a resurgence in power.

The incident of Grendal's awakening and subsequent defeat has managed to devide opinion amongst the people of this land. To the skeptics, the defeat of Grendal has convinced them of the need to modernise, embrace the outside world and reject Quet'ya, who has been shown to only have been a mortal. To the believers, the defeat of Grendal was a triumph of the reincarnated Quet'ya over the monstrous Giant once again, convincing them that the outside world should be rejected and that prayers to Quet'ya will offer better protection for the jungles then any Skyship.

The Lands of Ice!

The seccond and purple continent. It's moon heralds over the powers of ice.

Magic:
Crystali - Minor damage to a single foe.
Crystales - Moderate damage to a single foe.
Crytsalum - Heavy damage to a single foe.
Crystales - Very severe damage to a single foe.
Panika - Induces confusion in a single foe.
Sylenis - Induces silence upon a foe, prohibiting the use of magic.

Culture:
The culture of Glacia can only be commented on with respect to before the ancient war. Since then, there has been no sign of the purple civilisation. They were a culture that valued the mind over the body, known especially well for the simplicity of their magic prowess. Since Purple culture is little described, it has been extended on on this board. See th "History of Glacia" thread in "Legends of Arcadia Discussion" forum for more information.

Gigas:
Plergoth, the Archwhale. It survived the end of the war, but was never put to rest untill recently when it was killed during the game. Over the millenia that followed the war, it became known as Rhaknam among the sailors of the world. It always brought a dense mist with it wherever it travelled.

Cities:
Glacia. Using the powers of the purple moon, the mages of Ice were able to contruct a city on the underside of the frozen purple continent. Since it lies beneath the continent, it was not reduced to ruins like the other cities. Glacia can be found today, as it was before the war, untouched save for Plergoth's dwelling. It has also been sealed from the surface. Vyse was the first person to be able to break throug the layer of ice that prevented access to Glacia and thus set foot in it.

Yafutoma!

The third and blue continent. Its moon heralds over the powers of wind and water.

Magic:
Wevli - Minor damge to opponent and those standing close by.
Wevles - Moderate damage to opponent and those standing near by.
Wevlum - Heavy damage to opponent and those standing within a reasonable distance.
Wevles - Very severe damage to opponent and all those standing within almost any proximity.
Slipara - Attempts to Put opposing party to sleep.
Quicka - Raises the party's "quick" or speed.

Culture:
Yafutoman culture is distinctivly a mix between Chinese, Japanese and other similar east-aisian cultures, but mostly Japanese. Their hair is black and wear typical traditional clothing of old feudal Japan. They are ruled by the Yafutoman Emperor, currently Lord Daigo with his cheif twin admirals of the Yafutoman Navy, Jao and Mao.

Gigas:
Bluheim, the Pheonix. A great bird that is the guardian of Yafutoma. It's signiture attack was the "Blue Winds" which were said to banish invaiders from their lands. It suggests that Yafutoman's have never desired to own land other than that which lies under the blue moon. This point is re-inforced by their ships' ability to fly above the dark rift, but their negligence to do so.

Cities:
Yafutoma is only a small landmass. In fact it is merely a group of densly populated islands that lie directly beneath the Blue Moon. This group of Islands, known as the Yafutoma are the capital city themself. Other small islands in the surrounding regions will also play host to Yafutoman settlements. Also of note is Mt. Kazai, the dormant Volcano not far from Yafutoma, considered sacred among the people of Yafutoma. Its water-filled caverns are where the blue moon crystal was held. Annother landmark is Tenkou Island, also known as Exile Island, where prisoners of Yafutoma are sent into exile. It was once the base of the Tenkou before their leader, prince Daigo, returned from exile to take up the throne, when the Tenkou became the Yafutoman Navy.

Nasr!

The fourth and red continent. Its moon heralds over the powers of Fire.

Magic:
Pyri - engulf all enemies in a fireball.
Pyres - engulf all enemies in a firey earth tremor.
Pyrum - Engluf all enemies in raining fire.
Pyrulen - Engulf all enemies in a massive explosion.
Increm - Boost an allie's Strength and Vigor.
Incremus - Boost all alies' Strength and Vigor.

Culture:
Nasr culture is essentially a reflection of the Ottoman Empire. Highly tolerant of most beliefs or practices, indeed far more so their most frequant rival Valua, there is a place for all people and cultures within the mercentile Kingdom of Nasr; from the tribes of the great desert in the south to the Islanders of the frontier lands in the north. Despite strong traditions Nasr is also very liberal and almost all traders are welcome provided they come in peace. Only for criminals operating within Nasrr itself is Nasr truly intolerent; but here the punishments can be quite severe if caught, with convictions usually resulting in crippling fines for minor offenses, or amputation/execution resulting for more heinous crimes. Nasreans are masters of trade and arguably the most wealthy country in Arcadia. Nasr is ruled the Nasultan or (currently) the Nasultana, which is the title that every ruler of Nasr goes by.

Gigas:
Recumens, the Hydra. A creature with four legs and four heads, it shoots beams of firey red energy from its mouthes as it stomps across the dessert. It lies sealed at the temple of Pyren, a pyramid in the desert that is in partial ruins after the Gigas' most recent awakening by Belleza of Valua.

Cities:
"Only those who have walked through the dessert can truly know its size." With the deserts of Nasr being as formidable as the Saharah, settlements are built mostly at oasises, which are few and distant from each other. Traveling between them is done purley by ship. Two major cities are of note. The first is Maramba, the main city in southern Nasr, used as a port of call for sailors, merchants and the odd blue rogue.

The second is located in northern Nasr and is the captial, Nasrad, where the Nasultana resides. It is the world's capital of trade with uncountable goods passing through every day. A merchant's dream would be to set up a stall in Nasrad's Bazzar, a street of the best quality goods arround. Nasrad was burnt to the ground two years ago by the Valuan forces in a long standing dispute. However, it is now fully rebuilt into an even more spectacular city than it previously was.

Valua!

The fifth and Yellow continent. Its moon heralds over the powers of lightning.

Magic:
Electri - Shoot sparks of electricity in a narrow line.
Electres - Shoot bands of electricity in a line.
Electrum - Shoot bolts of electricity in a wide line.
Electrulen - Shoot Blasts of electricty in a general direction.
Driln - Lower the Strength and Vigor of one opponent.
Drilnos - Lower the Strength and Vigor of all opponents.

Culture:
The Valuan Empire is the most technologically advanced culture in Arcadia. Untill recently, their structure was entirly millitary under the rule of Emperess Teodora and the Valuan Armada. However, that was destroyed when it's own Lord Admiral Galcian turned on his country and did to Valua exactly what the Silvites did to the rest of the world thousands of years ago to wipe out most of the country's population. Emperor Enrique, known as the caring Emperor to many, is now in power and rebuilding Valua with the aid of what advanced, moonstone-powered machinery there was could be salvaged or re-built from the ruins.

Gigas:
Yeligar, the great dragon. Arguably the most powerful of the gigas, after Zelos (silver). It is comosed of not much more than a shell and lightning. It will even dismantle itself to release its almost endless supply of electricty. It exploded when it was destroyed two years ago.

Cities:
The Valuan capital was reduced to rubble two years ago along with the once inpenetrable Grand Fortress. The city used to be dominated by millitary and class with everyone either being excessivly rich or pitifully poor. This trend has started to change recently with the emergence of a new trading class, but differences go a long way back and will take ages to heal, if they can even ever truly be healed.

Valua's new royal mansion sits on the site of the collisium of old, in the midst of the people rather then isolated like the palace of old. Many new dwellings have been built upon the ruins of the old, families repairing their houses where possible or demolishing them where not to start afresh. The distinction between upper and lower city is now graduated rather then sharp, and not nearly as clear cut. Valua's Armada is much smaller now, though it still enforces the law and the Emperor's peace it now has very little role in government when previously it dominated. Under Enrique's order, both upper and lower cities have far more direct say then they used to.

There were also been other small towns in Valua, though they were ravaged simultaniously by the rains and are mostly in a state of disrepair and rebuilding. Reconstructon funds in the North have however been stolen frequently by corrupt officials, though where the money ended up they refuse to say...

Soltis!

The sixth and silver continent. Its moon heralds over the powers of death and renewal.

Magic:
Curia - cure an ally of negative ailments.
Risan - Attempt to revive an unconcious ally.
Rislem - Revive an unconcious ally.
Eterni - Attepmt to KO an opponent.
Eternes - Attempt to KO all opponents.
Eternum - KO an ally or, if they are immune, deal heavy damage.

Culture:
This is a mystical culture that is difficult to explain. The best way to understand it is to go and look for some screen shots from inside Soltis as its architecture tells a lot about its style of technology. It is comparable to none on Earth. However, it was ruled by a council of elders who feel responsible for the course of the world. Everything is focused towards the "greater good" whatever that may be. Fina is a Silvite, and probably the only Silvite still alive.

Gigas:
Zelos, the almighty. A giant, shapshifting orb. It was born of nothing and said to encompass everything. Created by the Silvites, it was used to end the ancient war by forcing the mass falling of moonstones from every moon at once, bathing the world in the "Rains of Detruction". The most powerfull Silvite mages and elders sent the Great Silver Shrine into the sky to escape the distruction where they have watched the world rise from its ashes and continued to judge untill two years ago, when they sacrificed themselves for Fina.

Cities:
Soltis is not so much of a city, but more like a giant temple that covers the entire hexagonal continet. It works like a giant magical construct to facillitate the magic of the silver moon to its fullest extent. Currently, Soltis lies below the clouds in Deep Sky where it fell after Zelos was destroyed. Where Soltis should reside now exists a vortex that is the easiest known point at which to enter Deep Sky.

Other Locations:

There exists other cities and powers in Arcadia that are not bound to one of the six known moons. Thus, they are described below.

Esperanza:
This was originally a city founded by the Valuans on a cape south of Nasr. Located near the Dark Rift it was originally built as a port for explorers. That was untill they realsied the Dark Rift could not be crossed by any but the excessivly lucky. Since then, the city lost Valua's attention and fell into dereliction, its inhabitants depressed. This changed again two years ago when Vyse sucessfully crossed the Dark Rift and returned. Now, Esperanza has become its own millitary power and nation in its own right. In a few years, Don (the city's greatest sailor and one companion of Vyse) will have mapped a secure route through the Rift.

Sailor's island:
This is the main port of Mid-ocean, the area of sky that lies between the green, yellow and red continents. It is the best known port for all manner of sailors and sea-faring folk, not to mention pirates. The headquarters of the Sailor's Guild are found here, as is the famous Polly's Tavern, run by Polly, her husband Robinson and their daughter Anne.

Pirate Ise:
Officially known as Windmill Island, this is the secret base of Dyne of the Blue Storm and his crew of Blue Rogues. Dyne is Vyse's father and also approaching retirement, but he isn't quite there yet. The island is located not far south from where Soltis should be.

Shrine Island:
An uninhabited island that lies directly above the Vortex. It is a fragment of Soltis that broke off before it fell into Deep Sky. However there is a rumor that it is now being used as a base for some Air Pirates.

Gordo's Bistro:
A five star resturant located in North Ocean, the area of Sky that connects Ixa'Taka with Valua. It is run by an ex-black pirate, Gordo the Round. People travel from arround the world to experience his foods and Loqua. (Loqua is made from distilling Loqat berries with moonstones. It has alcoholic effects)

Crescent Isle:
A rapidly expanding Island in the ocean North of Nasrad known as the Frontier Lands. Under the "official" leadership of Kirala, its primaray architect and builder, the island doubles as the secret underground base to Vyse and his crew.

Thus ends the compendium for now. When we are made aware of things that should be in here, or we realise there's something very important I've left out, we'll add to this information. May it help you to gain some knowledge about Arcadia.
